Gear Review: NIXON ROTOLOG WATCH

The Nixon Men’s Rotolog Watch is the timepiece I wear around town. My watch is inlaid with real walnut but you can choose from brightly colored enamel Rotologs if wood-grain isn’t your style.

Let me start with saying that I got this watch cheap! I swapped a Benjamin straight across for the walnut inlaid Rotolog after seeing it in Vail, Colorado at the Burton store. It’s not my favorite watch (Got to love a trusty diving watch) but it’s a watch I enjoy all the same. I don’t usually sport much bling or spend money on anything that isn’t functional but this watch caught my eye. It’s one of the four watches I own ( 2 diving watches, 1 surfing watch, and my Rotolog), and one of the two watches that are usable at the moment… Ok, I’m hard on all my gear. The only information you will find on Nixonnow.com about this watch is:

MOVEMENT: Custom Right-Read Direct Time Japanese Quartz With Led. CASE: Custom 30 Meter Stainless Steel With Hardened Mineral Crystal, Real Walnut Wood Or Enamel Inlay And Double Gasket Crown. BAND: Custom Solid Stainless Steel With Real Walnut Wood Or Enamel Inlay And Butterfly Closure.

Since your reading this I assume you want to know more about the watch so this is the skinny on the Rotolog. The watch gets it’s name from the face that spins past a small right window to indicate the time. Two separate wheels spin in the watch rendering the time where the two sets of numbers meet under the orange cross hair on the glass. The band sits on your wrist with a seamless butterfly closure so the wood inlay can wrap all the way around your wrist. The seamless closure look of the watch is one of it’s primary attributes… Well that and it has wood inlays!

The positives of the watch are:
I. Solid beautiful construction.
II. Melding of wood and metal.
III. It’s definitely manly, man jewelry.
IV. Chicks like it. (You will get compliments)
V.  It’s pretty darn Sexy.

The only cons we came up with for this watch are:
I. It’s got some weight to it.
II. Not water proof.
III. Large jumps in wrist adjustment sizes.

While the Mens Diving watch is a staple item form adventurous among us, the Rotolog is a great wardrobe addition for the casual.

Note: If your not the sharpest tool in the shed or have trouble reading analog time, this is not the watch for you. Go buy a ironman watch from Walmart and go on with your life.

This watch is hot! When are you going to post some surf trip pictures?

  • Dont have a lot of great action shots at the moment. I’ve got someone who will be shooting with a lens during hurricane season on our coast this year so I will post them as they I get them. I also Have a new GoPro that will be mounted on my board when we have clean surf and I might swim out for some good shots also. Thanks the comment.
